NRC CONTRACTING FORMULAS

People have asked me, “How can you say NRC was the largest concert management company in the US?”  Well, Seattle was a much smaller market than New York or Los Angeles but NRC had been in business for twenty years and had strong functional partnerships in Portland, Vancouver BC, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Victoria and Winnipeg.  When we booked an extended tour we would often start in Winnipeg and then, touring west, play all of the central Canadian Markets. We usually ended tours in our three largest markets, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland. We occasionally added Victoria, Spokane and one or more of the college venues.  NRC tours often encompassed six to ten concert-ready markets. We also dabbled in Denver, Salt Lake City, Honolulu and San Francisco as well. Companies such as the William Morris Agency, Creative Management Association, Columbia Artists Management, American Theater Productions - the big talent agencies at the time - wanted to work with NRC.  We had clout and buying power, more than the other players in our markets. When we signed the contracts the tours often encompassed six to ten concert-ready markets.
