DAVE BRUBECK

I first met Dave Brubeck in May 1969 (?) when he and Paul Desmond toured for Bill Owens and me under the NRC banner.  We hit it off, the concerts sold well, Dave went into percentage and everyone came out a winner. We played our primary theatre venues, the Seattle Opera House, Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, B. C. and the New Auditorium in Portland.

In the fall of '75 Glynn Ross, the Managing Director of The Seattle Opera and I cut a deal to tour Dave again for the Seattle opera in Seattle. I took him into the Portland and Vancouver theatres under the Garrett Attractions Banner And once again the concerts did well.

It was always a pleasure to work with Dave Brubeck. He was easy-going, laid-back and not overly impressed with his successful album sales and growing popularity as a concert attraction.

In the concert business it was, and probably still is, difficult to make money with Jazz. Dave Brubeck always proved to be an exception and I much enjoyed the brief times I spent with him on the road.
