Vocal Stylings by Keith Mirick
“Although I am singing a lot now in my retirement years, I didn’t need to sing with Keith Mirick in my band. Keith was a great vocalist and was called upon to quickly learn and sing the charted hits of the day. ”
Keith Mirick was an educator with an MBA in music, a homegrown boy from southern Oregon who ended up managing the Sherman Clay music store in downtown Seattle in the seventies. Keith was a fine trumpet player who could sight read most any chart, and he played good jazz and Dixieland when called upon to do so. Burke Garrett was quick to hire him when he first turned up in Seattle. He played the lead book and was featured singer on Burke’s band for six years. It’s Keith’s playing and singing that you heard on Garretts swinging septet all through the sixties.
